It is with sadness we report the death of Peter Highton who attended the School from 1939 to 1947. The Highton family was linked to the School for three generations from the 1930s to the 1970s.
Peter's son David informed us of his passing and provided these words.
"Peter Highton passed away peacefully at the aged of 92 in the Great Western Hospital in Swindon on December 29 2021 and his funeral was held at the North Wiltshire Crematorium on January 7, 2022.
He was father to two Old Bordenians, David Highton (1967-72) and John Highton (1968-74) and a daughter, Jill, who attended Highsted.
Dad was the younger son of Allan Highton, who was a master at Borden and who was in charge of 90 Sheppey pupils evacuated to South Wales in June 1940. Dad was enrolled as a Borden pupil at the aged of 10 and remained in Wales with his parents and his older brother John (another OB) until August 1942. He left Borden in 1947 and did most of his National Service in Egypt before returning in 1949 to attend Reading University.
After graduation he joined Bowater Paper in the Research and Development department in Northfleet and stayed with the company for 29 years, working in Kemsley as well as Northfleet. His job developed into providing technical consultancy in different parts of the world including South America and Africa, a role he continued in his own company after leaving Bowater in 1982.
He was married to his wife May for nearly 68 years until she passed away in 2020."
We send our deepest condolences to David, John and their families at this time.
