Once again the Old Boys Veteran (retired) FC players held their annual reunion on 16th June on a warm sunny evening at the UK Paper Sports Pavilion.
The evening of 23rd September 2021 was a special evening because during the course of 4 hours the OBA Veterans Football Club reunion was held for 2020 and 2021. As you would expect, they merged into one very enjoyable evening. Alan Snelling and Peter Lusted have provided this report.
The Old Bordenians Hockey Club is separate from the OBA but we maintain close links. Many Old Bordenians have and continue to play for the Club and the Association has historically supported the Club financial appeals, particularly in regard to the construction of the Club pitches. We also welcome many of the OHBC to our Annual Reunion Dinners.
The Old Bordenians Football team reported at the 2019 AGM a fantastic 2018-19 season. The OBA provides support through the funding of the team's kit. Their unrivalled exploits are detailed in the Report provided to the OBA AGM and is detailed in this report by Keith O'Shea.
After 14 years, the Old Bordenian Hockey Club and the School have worked to deliver to club members and pupils a magnificent, new, two-tone green surface with a new yellow and black set of match goals. The pitch will be opened on Saturday 15 September by Olympic and European gold medal winner, Susannah Townsend. Susannah will also take part in a master-class for juniors and minis. The attached poster gives the timetable for the day and it is hoped that as many club members, parents and friends as possible will come along to support the event. The bar will be open and food will be on sale.
For the third year running, Alan Snelling has organised a get together at UK Paper's Sports Ground of former players of the Old Boys Football Club.
Old Bordenian Hockey Club have launched an appeal for funds to replace the current pitch. Alan Wilson, Old Bordenian and Chairman of the Hockey Club, has sent this letter - OBHC replacement pitch - to club members, outlining the need for this replacement. The School and the Club together are making a substantial contribution to the funding of the project. If any OBA members are willing to make a donation, it would undoubtedly be gratefully received. The letter contains details of how to make such a donation.
I notice that the last report filed by me on OBHC appeared in 2009, so I had better come out from behind that rock and start writing!
All sports evolve in their respective strategies, playing skills and techniques, equipment, fitness levels and the rules of the sport, but few, I would suggest, have evolved to such an extent as has hockey. The days of turning up for a game with the dregs of a pint in one hand, a fag in the other, and the stick still in the changing room are long gone.
