We have reported previously on the plans to expand the School through the building of a new extension.
The Head gave us a full description of the plans at the 2022 Reunion Dinner saying when complete the student number will be 1000, having 2 years ago increased the intake from 4 forms to 5, making an annual 150 pupils. Quite a change from the early 50's when the School Roll was around 300!
The cost of the newbuild will be £6.975M., and cover a 2 storey teaching block, specialist classrooms for science and IT, staff rooms and a 3 court sports hall with changing facilities. As part of the build, it is planned to incorporate a School emblem merging our School badge and poppies to mark the location on the Avenue of Remembrance. Attached here is a copy of the latest drawings which illustrate the planned elevations of the building and the simple, but powerful emblem that will adorn it.
The machines entered the site last week. As a result of their early work, the property manager at the School approached the Sittingbourne History Society to say it looked like an old air raid shelter had been unearthed, did they have any information to confirm this. The newbuild will be on the original School field alongside The Avenue of Remembrance.
Our understanding was that the shelters were sited under what is now the main car park, opposite the former Bowaters Club House.
