Obituary - Keith Hoggins (OB 1966-1972)

on . Hits: 34

We are sad to hear from OB Dave Weller and from OB Phil Drury of the passing of Sheppey boy Keith Hoggins (OB 1966– 1972) on November 7th 2024.

Courtesy of his family, Keith (front row, far left, kneeling) with his successful local league side, Victory, in the 1970s

We send our condolences to Keith's widow, Sue, and to his children, Matthew and Danielle, wider family and friends.

Keith began his career with 10 years service on the East Kent Gazette, reporting sport and news, and growing into the role of sub-editor.    He progressed from regional to national papers with the News of the World and 30 years with the Daily Telegraph, including the investigations into MPs’ scandalous ‘expenses’ (remember the moat and the duck house at taxpayers’ expense ?) and was a stickler for punctuation, grammar and style (I wonder where he learned that ?).

Dave Weller (OB 1966-1973) writes:

"Very sad news to those of us who joined the school in 1966, especially those of us who travelled across from Sheppey.    It also shows that not all the School's successes went to university.     Keith had a university level brain but chose [instead] to meet the future Queen and scare MP's."
